What does OM stand for?

Why are you going aboard the Logos Hope?
I believe God has called me to work as a mediator, to help connect people from different points of view, backgrounds and cultures and ultimately to share his love in the process.  Therefore, I have been pursuing cross-cultural experience in preparation for returning to university to study cross-cultural relations.  The opportunity to work aboard the Logos Hope with people from more than 45 countries for people from various other countries is truly valuable to me.  Also as I hope to be a professor of Sociology at a Christian university helping people understand others I value the opportunity to work with the same population aboard the Logos as I would in the classroom.  I also believe that this will be an excellent opportunity to disciple others and to be discipled in return.

When will you leave for the Logos Hope?
I am going to the Go Conference (a mandatory conference for first time volunteers with Operation Mobilization) from August 21, 2012 - September 1st, 2012.  After that I will go directly to the Logos Hope.

How much money do you have to raise?
I will need to raise $1190/month (CAD) and I will be on the ship for 24 months, therefore I will need to raise $28,560 CAD.  There are extra costs for flights, vaccinations, etc., but I will be covering all of those.

Where does the money go?
All money donated to Operation Mobilization on my behalf will be dedicated as follows:
90% will cover accommodation, food, a foreign medical plan, ministry costs (i.e. literature, team vehicle)...
8% will be given to Operation Mobilization Canada Office (for mortgage, property tax, supplies - not for personnel)
1% will be given to OM International Development
1% will be given to OM International Coordinating Team

What if you are delayed or unable to work with OM in August - what happens to the donations you received?
All donations are kept in a secure account and will not be used before I have started my work with OM.  If something happens to prevent me from working with OM all donors will be contacted by OM and will be able to choose to have their gifts returned in full or to donate them to the Logos Hope or another OM field.
